"Under the “Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS)” introduced by the Ministry of Power a framework for promoting advanced technologies across power distribution sector was approved, which entailed leveraging the existing network of Technical service providers (TSP) to test and scale up use cases at Discom(s) and creating power distribution focused incubators for continuous innovation in the sector.
Accordingly powerthon-2022 was conceptualised as a forum for participation of established TSPs, startups, educational institutions, research institute, equipment manufacturers, state power utilities and other state and central power sector entities. The TSPs are to showcase their technology driven solutions to solve the complex problems of Discoms. The solutions can be based on any advanced emerging technologies like AI/ML, Blockchain, IoT, VR/AR etc.

Financial viability of DISCOMs in India is hugely dependent upon immediate reduction in AT&C Losses and optimizing power procurement costs. We are extremely delighted to have been selected in POWERTHON for pilots in both these areas deploying solutions directly in coordination with DISCOMs has always been difficult and very challenging. POWERTHON has been able to bridge the gap and is acting as a catalyst where the best solutions are selected and are now getting implemented for final validations.
Powerthon has given a platform for TSPs to engage with DISCOMs fruitfully to conduct proof of concept for nascent technologies for various business problems of utilities. We have been working with MPPoKVVCL for the Demand Load Forecasting Problem Statement during POC. Within 4 weeks, we received data, got through data discussions, and did two rounds of model validations. Having a structured platform aided in keeping all the stakeholders aligned to common targets.
